Techniques taught: Egg Tempera & Gold Leaf

Tempering pigment paints with specific binders like gum arabic, animal skin glue, casein and egg yolk were some of the traditional methods of producing tempera works. Egg tempera is Arvin’s focus, which he will share, the basics of this particular technique, which became widely used in the Medieval European Art, throughout the Middle Ages as well as part of the Renaissance period.

Coupled with the egg tempera, expect to discover the exciting and extremely delicate technique of gold leafing, many examples which can probably be seen in Christian Icon paintings.

Learn to prepare your own tempera colors, application techniques of ‘petit lac’ and strokes, specific to tempera painting. Become apprentice of gold leafing and be prepared to let your imagination expand to more creative surfaces and objects and create relief designs through gold leafing.
